Obituary for Michael Lee Smith

Michael Lee Smith was born in San Diego, Ca to the late, Paula Lee Lamberth and Kenneth Neal Smith, on Dec. 14, 1959.

Michael Lee, passed away suddenly, from natural causes on May 4, 2017 at his home, surrounded by his family. Affectionately known as Honey, Dad, Mike, Michael Lee and Bapa, he
spent his childhood, school years and early adulthood, in San Diego county. Growing up, he loved the beach, horses, dirt bike riding, camping and river trips. His adventures led him to Steamboat Springs, CO in 1981, where he met Bonnie at City Market grocery store. She was 5 years older, and had a young daughter, Heather, but they hit it off and after some time, he swept her off her feet with his fun personality and handsome eyes and smile. He took her and her daughter, to meet his family in CA, and shortly after, the three became a trio and headed west to live in CA and left the snow behind.

Michael and Bonnie were married for 34 years. Their union in marriage, started a wonderful, fun and fulfilling life for them. Brandon Smith, was born in 1983, and with their family now complete, they moved to the Antelope Valley and continued the journey of raising, loving and guiding their two children until the day he passed.
Michael leaves behind his loving wife, Bonnie Smith, his daughter, Heather Duffin and son Brandon Smith.
Mike has four grandsons, Corbin, Devon, Liam and Cadin Duffin and he played a tremendous role in helping to shape them into kind and hard working young men.
He also leaves behind, his son in law, Tim Duffin and his daughter in law Erin Smith both of whom he loved dearly. He is also survived by his brother Scott Smith, nephew, several aunts/uncles and cousins.

Michael Lee, continued his childhood hobbies throughout his life. These included coaching soccer, gardening, countless DIY projects, tinkering in his garage, camping, dirt bike/quad riding, and spending time with his wife, kids, grandsons, extended family, friends, colleagues and of course, his dog Ollie, whenever possible.

Mike was a hard driven, dedicated employee at JT3, out of Edwards AFB. He spent his career working as a logistics specialist manager. His skills, knowledge and mentor-ship abilities led to many awards and recognition within the company and on base and he will be greatly missed.

Michael Lee Smith's larger than life, generous and unselfish soul was the glue that kept his family together. Despite the hardships that arose in his life, he rarely complained and always put others before himself. He is missed terribly already. Those he has left behind, are scrambling to understand why he left so soon. However, he is resting in peace, and now watching over them all.

Memorial Services will be held at a later date.
