Condolence: Dear dad... you've left a crater-sized hole in our hearts when you transitioned to the next phase of your journey. That hole only increases with every missed laugh, and missed piece of advice and missed talks and missed teachings you would offer me and comfort me with. I can only say...It was a pleasure and honor to know you for 34 years of my life. I wish it was more, but I understand that you had other work to be done elsewhere. One of my biggest fears when you left, was not hearing your voice... you had such a resounding voice -- it was distinct and it was yours. You had the gift of gab and you had this amazing energy to inspire, educate and motivate those around you for their betterment. You pushed others to see their potential or self worth or contribution to this world. The work you've done is unmatched and your legacy continues with every person you came in contact with throughout your years of being involved in the community, or just being a friend. I'm proud of you...always and forever. Last year, you were at your 50th high school class reunion in Alexandria, LA and you were selected to give a speech to your classmates. Fortunately, I have the recording of you that I listen to every now and again so I can hear your voice, but you said something in the beginning and at the end of your speech that struck me to my core. In the beginning, you recited the poem, "God's Minute" by Dr. Benjamin E. Mays:

"I've only just a minute,
Only sixty seconds in it.
Forced upon me, can't refuse it,
Didn't seek it, didn't choose it,
But it's up to me to use it.
I must suffer if I lose it,
Give an account if I abuse it,
Just a tiny little minute,
But eternity is in it."

Then, at the last part of your speech, you said this...verbatim:

"We all got a job here to do... and when that job is complete... when we've done all that we can do...He bring us in and says..."come on up to receive your reward."
God bless you and keep you."

So dad...I commend you on a job well done and I know you have received your reward(s). God is blessing you and He is keeping you in heaven, so you can continue to spread your gift with others. I love you dad!

Your loving daughter,
LaDwan

Condolence: Henderson Anderson, Jr., will always hold a special place in my heart. His first year as new principal at Challenger Center School, (JCS) he hired me as his secretary. We we're two "newbies" to our assignments but we had each other's back and survived the times. I always appreciated his calm, well thought-out responses to what appeared to be chaotic situations. A stellar gentleman!

My thoughts and prayers are with Anderson & family.

Condolence: Henderson was always a calming voice in a time that presented many challenges. A spiritual man who lead by example and provided leadership at Juvenile court schools. I will miss Henderson. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
