Life Story for Ruth Wanda Garrison

Ruth Wanda Garrison
Ruth Thompson Garrison

Born August 24th, 1925 in Portsmouth, OH., passed away January 12th, 2018 in Lancaster, CA. Ruth grew up in Southern Ohio and graduated from Western High School in Latham, Ohio. She lived in the Antelope Valley from 1983-1996 and again from 2009 – 2018. She is survived by: three brothers, Carl Thompson Jr., Donald Thompson, Gary Thompson; one sister, Delores Seymour; three children, Ric Garrison, Kris Sosa (Tony), Maria Mullins and three grandchildren, Stephanie Sosa, Trenton Garrison and Chandler Garrison. She was preceded in death by her husband Lewis Garrison September 2006 and brothers Paul Thompson and Robert Thompson.

In the late 1940’s, Ruth worked at Alcoa Aluminum Company in Chillicothe, Ohio, where she met Lewis Garrison. They were married in the summer of 1950. They moved to Pasadena, California where Ruth worked a secretarial job until adopting Ric Garrison in 1956 and later adopting Kris Garrison in 1959.

Ruth dedicated her life to her family and raising her children. During the 70’s she worked at the Union Scioto School District in Ohio, collecting lunch money from students and often paying for kids’ lunches when they forgot to bring their own money. She was always a giver and loved to share food, ½ sticks of gum, and just about anything she could. She was a social person; a mom to many and a friend to all.

Ruth loved to spend time with her family, often saying “there’s nothing better than family.” She enjoyed music and dancing and loved to travel. Ruth stopped working at the School District to devote time towards raising Maria Garrison, whom she legally adopted in 1982.

In 1983, Ruth and Lewis returned to California and she worked in her son’s medical practice until she moved back to Ohio in 1996. Ruth spent a lot of time with her brothers and sisters who lived near, but then returned to California in 2009. She spent her final years at Prestige Assisted Living where she made many new friends and spent time with her children.

Ruth is now watching over us; our guardian angel.
